Background Checks
Posted on Aug 29, 2008 under Uncategorized |I’m currently in process of finding someone to rent out our house now that we’ve moved. It’s not exactly a straight-forward process, but it’s not something that’s impossible to do. It’s our second house that we’re trying to rent out now and there are definitely some things that we’ve learned from the first time.
We didn’t do this the first time, and we didn’t have any problems, but something that most likely should be done is to have a Background Check run on any applicants that you have. I understand that you may assume the best in people, and so do I, but when you’re going to sign a lengthy agreement/contract with someone, you’ll want to make sure that you have as much information as you can with which to make the best decision possible. And if that means that you should have a Criminal Background Check performed, then so be it.
There are also other reasons that you would want to have a Criminal Check run on someone. Perhaps you’re a business owner and want it for hiring reasons. The important thing is that you know that it’s available so that you can make informed decisions concerning some of the people that you choose to do business with.

Running a background check on someone that is renting one’s house is a valid thing to do, because the condition of the house during their stay could relate to how they have performed as a citizen. It would be a wise economical choice.

Look into individual state resources, as well. Some states may provide certain records free of charge. There is; however, no central database of state records that is available to the general public free of charge.

I ‘ve had a problem of trying to get all of my players to come up with extensive backgrounds. I like backgrounds because it helps me create stories around the characters. I just have to remember, though, that some of the players aren’t interested in that – and since it’s “our” game, I have to respect that.

Many of these companies will also use this opportunity to “update your marketing preferences”. In other words make sure you don’t end up opting back into lists you spent months getting removed from.

It’s also a great way to reactivate any old / forgotten / recycled debts you may owe. Obviously there are no statute of limitations consequences, but those phone calls you used to get may start up again.

The question has to do with it being open ended. You don’t sign away your privacy by agreeing to work on a government project.
