The Golden Arches Experience

My wife and I just got back from MacDo where we ate dinner and picked up a movie at RedBox (Blades of Glory if you must know). We were able to pick the movie up for free which is always a plus.

Obviously, it wasn’t a very fancy outing but we were able to get out and talk and generally have a good time. We also really like their fries which is a lot more than I can say for some other burger joints (if you’re familiar with In-N-Out you know what I mean). Probably the most obvious up-side to the whole outing was that it didn’t cost us a fortune. While we could have gone to some place like The Olive Garden, I wouldn’t have come home any happier or satisfied, but I definitely would be out a lot more money.

I’m not writing this to say that you should all rush out to McDonald’s because it’s the greatest experience ever. If you haven’t already formed an opinion about the place, I’d probably wonder what hole you’ve been living in. But that’s not the point.

What I’m getting at is that things don’t have to cost a lot of money for them to be enjoyable. For some reason people have gotten it in their heads that the more money they spend the better time they will have. I don’t believe this is the case. We should really be more self-aware and do those things that we actually enjoy instead of succumbing to the hype of what we’re told we should enjoy. And I enjoy MacDo every now and then. What do you enjoy?

Since you asked, I enjoy a good bowl of ice cream. Simple, cheap, but oh so good.

I prefer Taco Bell myself, but I also enjoy a traditional restaurant as well. They cost more, but oh well.

When I was working for a verbally abusive woman (I left pretty quickly) I’d stop by there and pick up fries on the way home. Made things feel a lot better.

Mr. Micah and I take “date night” at Borders bookstore. Tends to cost $8-9 for coffee. We don’t buy books (except for our birthdays) but we get some and browse through them and chat and it’s lovely. We do it maybe twice a month.

More regularly, we go for walks after dinner, which are free.

Per the IN-N-Out, I agree that their normal fries are not the best, but I really like them if you specially order them “well-done.” Plus, they are always fried in veg oil and with fresh potatoes.

I just discovered Indian food and I love it! It’s kinda expensive and that’s why I’m trying to learn how to cook it at home so it shouldn’t be too hard on my wallet.

I’ve also gone to a bookstore and just browsed/read some of what they have there, and the walks are a great and inexpensive activity.

It’s also good to learn to cook some of your favorites at home. I’m convinced that I can make anything that they have at Olive Garden.

I also stand by my In-N-Out comment.

Gotta disagree, I love In-N-Out fries - fresh potatoes, veggie oil, come on, are you kidding me! They are the real deal.

All differences aside, I am enjoying reading your blog. Well done.

i can’t disagree that in-n-out’s fries are poo. but when i go to a burger joint, i’m going for…well, a burger. and in this regard in-n-out is second to none. NONE!!
